The request for a mushroom /fungi event has paid off with two upcoming trips, including one this coming Saturday:
1. Fungi Event 1: 9:30 am, Saturday, 20 August, Moore’s Meadow
This will be a fairly short — 90 minutes or so — trip led by Carolyn McGhee. Experts are very welcome; the rest of us will bring, or share, ID books. Meet at the Moore’s Meadow parking lot on Foothills.
2. Fungi Event 2: Saturday, September 17th, Purden Lake Park
Keith Egger and Darwyn Coxson will be holding a lichens and fungi interpretive walk as part of the BC Parks 100 celebrations there that day. More details will be given closer to the event.
Meanwhile, don’t forget about:
3. Field trip and presentation on invasive plants, Thursday, August 25, 7:00 pm.
We’ll be heading to various nearby locations to seek out and identify the plants and whatever else crosses our path. The trip leader is Andrea Eastham, Program Manager, Northwest Invasive Plant Council. The current plan is to meet up at the Parks / MOE Headquarters on 18th avenue, and car pool from there.
Is anyone doing bat research locally? Carolyn McGhee has a lead on an accessible colony giving good observation opportunities.
