I hope to see you on Thursday evening for a meeting which just might lead to great things:
1.) Evening Walk along the Heritage Trail, Thursday, July 5, 7:00 pm
This walk will focus on the Hudson’s Bay wetland, partly because there are fine sightings at this time of year – goldeneye and gadwall hatchlings have been reported in the last couple of days – but also to acquaint people with the area and discuss the possibilities of transforming it into a key naturalists’ centre. With leadership from the club, this neglected area just might be gradually turned into a natural gem of which the city can be proud.
Meet in the parking area at Exploration Place at 7:00 pm with suitable footwear, and bring your thinking cap.
2.) Visit to Mackenzie Bird Banding Station, Saturday, July 28, all day event
Prepare to be up and going early: Mugaha Marsh is some distance from Prince George, and the mist nets operate only in the morning. We’ll likely meet up in PG no later than 7:00 am – let me know if you are planning to come so we work on car pooling.
3.) Trip to Rosebud Mountain
James Steidle has offered to take us on another trip to Rosebud Mountain, and the date is currently being worked out. He took this photo there recently – a rare sighting indeed – and the trip down to Rosebud can be as productive as Rosebud itself. Deer, young bears and sharp-tailed grouse were just a few of the sightings last time round.
4.) Checklist of Vertebrates
A second draft version of the checklist is here Checklist of North V1.2. Please send any comments and improvements!
