Upcoming PGNC Event and Notes, 21 November 2013

Upcoming Club Events

1. Evening on Bird Banding, Thursday, 28 November 2013, 7:00 pm, The Exploration Place

This is a  three-part presentation: a brief overview talk on the nature and results of bird banding; a presentation by Vi  Lambie on the very impressive bird-banding operation at Mugaha Marsh, and talks by several  club members about their experiences as banders. (“Best job I ever had!” said one.)  Be sure to come along and brighten a gloomy November day.

2. Christmas Bird Count

This year’s CBC is to be held on Sunday, 15 December.

1. Very Unexpected Reaction

The Club’s executive have been planning a social event for members and a friend in the new year, and enquired about a liquor licence. The liquor inspector replied that it would be necessary to impose restrictions, not because of the alcohol, but because of the nudity. Nudity? We’re a NATURALIST Club.

2. Winter Sightings

Keep your eyes open for the first Snowy Owls of the winter, and the return of the First Avenue Gyrfalcon. Deer, moose, and wolf sightings have also been accelerating with the first snows.

  1. The issuing inspector of the license not only missed the meaning of the Naturalist Club but he doesn’t know how cold it is up here to be jaunting around, drinking a beer without wool clothing! Gotta love it.
