Naturalists Club news for members – February 26th, 2014

Hello members,

Good news! The Club is now officially incorporated as a Society. The newly approved constitution and bylaws are available on the Membership page.
The Annual General Meeting is confirmed for Thursday March 27 at Exploration Place at 7 p.m. Guest speaker is Doug Heard talking about the moose population in northern BC. Detailed information on the AGM will be sent out soon.
The City of Prince George is developing a Community Services Master Plan for parks and recreation. The City is looking for input from residents. Two Community Conversation public meetings are scheduled for March 4 at the Civic Centre. Several online surveys are also available. For more information on the Master Plan, meetings and surveys, check out the City’s website: http://www.princegeorge.ca/cityliving/csmp/Pages/Community Services Master Plan.aspx
This is a chance for all parks and recreation users to let the City know what our pools, parks, trails and other indoor and outdoor spaces mean to us. The Public Input survey seeks opinions about how to pay for these services. The Seniors Survey (aged 55 and older) does not. People aged 55 and older may want to complete both surveys in order to get their opinions on record.

The Great Backyard Birdcount (GBBC) 2014 is coming up, on February 14-17, so keep those feeders filled. To find out about it, or sign up to take part, head to http://www.birdsource.org/gbbc/canada .

Auroras!
This should be a great year for northern lights, as we are at the peak of the 11-year cycle. A joint talk with the Observatory (RASC) is being arranged, for the second half of February. More details will be given in the next club email.

Hudson Bay Slough Walking Trip: Thursday, August 16, 7:00 pm

Hi everyone

Just a reminder for this Thursday evening’s walk.

1. Hudson Bay Slough Walking Trip: Thursday, August 16, 7:00 pm
This will be a second club trip to the Hudson Bay wetland, with the intention of checking it at different water levels, spotting the changing fauna and flora, and continuing the debate on possible development of the area as a key naturalist centre for the city. The full loop walk normally takes a gentle 40 minutes or so, but there’ll no doubt be many stops. Meet at the car park at Exploration Place at 7:00 pm.
